VANCOUVER, Wash. — It's a double-double! In-N-Out Burger submitted plans to open a location in Vancouver, Washington, the popular fast food chain's second in the state.

The plans come two weeks after the chain posted on Instagram that it was excited to expand to Washington with a restaurant in Ridgefield. In-N-Out submitted a pre-application on April 15 to open the Vancouver location at 13511 SE Third Way, which is the site of a former Rite Aid.

In-N-Out fans may need to be patient, however. The chain told KOMO News it will be some time before the Vancouver location opens and there was no timeline for an opening date.

"It is still early in the pre-development process, so we hope for a positive outcome, as we work with the city to pursue our permits and approvals," said Mike Abbate, the vice president of store development for In-N-Out. "Once we begin construction on a new location, it usually takes us eight to nine months to build the restaurant and open for business."

In-N-Out has submitted a commercial development pre-application, the city of Vancouver confirmed. The city said the pre-application process is the first step in the land use planning process, and the city said the pre-application conference will be May 9.

"In-N-Out Burger submitted an application on April 15 for a new 3,800-square-foot restaurant including drive-through service and outdoor seating," said Tim Becker, the strategic communications manager for Vancouver. "No building permits have been submitted as of yet."

The restaurant known for extensive drive-through lines, animal-style burgers, and a not-so-secret menu opened its first location in California in 1948, according to its website.

Washington will be the ninth state In-N-Out has expanded to, according to the chain. In-N-Out currently operates restaurants in California, Nevada, Arizona, Utah, Texas, Oregon, Colorado, and Idaho.
