Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth's PS5 platinum trophy bug fix is now live

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth currently has a platinum trophy bug that was introduced in the PS5 game's latest patch — but mercifully a patch is coming.

Update: You can now continue to hunt those Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trophies in peace: Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's platinum trophy bug has been squashed. Version 1.030 of the game has gone live, meaning you can now once again take home the platinum trophy from one of the best PS5 games around.

Confirmed on the Japanese Final Fantasy VII X account, the bug affecting the quest "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" has been fixed by a patch that's due out on Thursday, April 11, 2024. While upload times for the patch might differ worldwide, chances are this update is already live in your region, meaning you can once more earn the With this quest fixed, you can now once again earn the trophy "My Job Here is Done" for completing all of the game's side missions.

Original report: If you're collecting Final Fantasy VII Rebirth trophies and it's not too late already, you might want to hold off updating the game to version 1.02 via the latest patch. That's because the latest update has reportedly gifted Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with a platinum trophy bug. So, if you've been following the trophy hunting advice laid out in my recent Final Fantasy VII Rebirth review, maybe ease off the trophy hunting until the game gets patched.

Final Fantasy VII Rebirth bug is affecting a major trophy

The FFVII Rebirth trophy bug report comes from this thread on Reddit, in which the user "A0704" describes a bug they've encountered while trying to earn the trophy "My Job Here is Done." This particular trophy unlocks when you complete all of FFVII Rebirth's quests and side quests.

The bug affects the completion of the quest "Can't Stop, Won't Stop" — the last side quest in the game. This quest, which is available only after completing the date section of Gold Saucer in Chapter 12 (but before the gang sets off for the Temple of the Ancients). In this quest, Cloud will run into recurring side character Shinra Middle Manager, and will have to complete a series of modified minigames with him at the Gold Saucer in order to complete the quest.

According to the Reddit post, and seconded by users in the same thread, the bug seems to affect the completion of the G-Bike minigame section of the side quest. Typically, once the player completes one of the minigames in this quest, they'll get a short exchange with the Middle Manager confirming their victory. However, since Final Fantasy VII Rebirth was updated to version 1.02, users are reporting that this confirmation no longer happens after beating the Middle Manager on the G-Bike machine.

Frustratingly, this issue is preventing the quest from completing, which is therefore stopping players from earning "My Job Here is Done," which, in turn, is stopping players from claiming Final Fantasy VII Rebirth's platinum trophy.

The Reddit post does describe a workaround. By deleting the game from their PS5 (although keeping their save data) and reinstalling it again from its physical disc, the user was able to revert the game back to version 1.000 — the pre-patch version of the game where the trophy unlocked fine. Of course, this isn't a solution that is going to work for every PS5 player — many of us own the game digitally, and so will be unable to revert the game to version 1.000.

In a follow-up post on PSN Profiles, more FFVII Rebirth players have encountered other workarounds. Some users report the quest working fine so long as the player has already activated it before installing the patch. Another user believes the quest might be working fine for those playing on hard difficulty.

That patch does fix Cloud's face though, so it's a tough call.

Either way, the best solution to the problem is to avoid the game's latest patch until the issue is fixed by developer Square Enix. That, or use our Final Fantasy VII Rebirth platinum trophy tips to hunt down all the other trophies in the meantime — this is quite a lengthy game to complete, so you should have more than enough to get on with as you hunt down the platinum.

Still, it's a shame that users are having their experience of the game spoiled by this latest FFVII Rebirth trophy bug.
