Kris Hallenga was only 23 when she was given a stage 4 breast cancer diagnosis in 2009. Almost immediately she decided to dedicate her remaining time to raising awareness of the condition.

She founded the high-profile charity CoppaFeel! to encourage young women to check their breasts regularly; was the subject of a BBC3 television documentary Kris: Dying to Live (2014); and published the bestselling memoir Glittering a Turd (2021).

Young, blonde and vivacious, she was determined to use every means possible to get her message across, including a "Check 'em Tuesday" campaign on page 3 of The Sun newspaper.
