A man has been left with potentially life-changing injuries after he was nailed to a fence in a "sinister" attack, Northern Irish police said.

The man in his 20s was discovered on Saturday night secured to a fence with a nail through each hand in Bushmills, Co Antrim, it was reported.

The man had injuries to his nose and is being treated in hospital where his condition is described as not life-threatening.

Two vans including one belonging to the injured man were discovered on fire in a public car park near Dundarave Park.

Police said that paramilitary involvement was one key line of inquiry.

Two fire crews also attended and extensive damage was caused to both vehicles.
