Met Office details 23C heat spike in Gloucestershire

It's a quick turnaround after thunder and lightning hit the county on Bank Holiday Monday as torrential rain poured down. People in the county can now look forward to more settled weather from today (Tuesday, May 7), according to the latest Met Office forecast.

For the whole of the UK, the best weather is in the south. There could be some rain in the north and northwest at times later in the week, but the country will be feeling increasingly warm.

In its forecast for Cheltenham and Gloucester, the Met Office has the highest temperature of 23C on Saturday (May 11). There will be some cloud around, but the overall forecast is 'sunny'.

Before then, Tuesday should see sunny intervals on a dry day with highs of 20C and lows of 10C. Tomorrow (Wednesday) should be dry with sunny intervals as well (21C/11C).

Thursday sees a sunny day with highs of 22C and lows of 11C. Friday will see a bit more cloud, but still highs off 22C and lows of 11C.

Saturday has that 23C heat spike on another sunny day, with lows of 10C. Sunday has sun as well, but some cloud rolling in at night, with highs of 22C and lows of 10C.

Met Office West Country weather

Today: Any mist and fog patches lifting this morning to leave a largely fine and dry day with some warm sunshine. The odd shower possible in the afternoon though fewer and less heavy than on Monday. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Tonight: Dry this evening with plenty of late sunny spells. Staying dry overnight with some patches of mist, fog and low cloud developing by dawn. Minimum temperature 7 °C.

Wednesday: Low cloud, mist and fog soon clearing to leave another mostly dry day with bright spells of sunshine. Feeling warm with light winds. Maximum temperature 20 °C.

Outlook for Thursday to Saturday: High pressure dominates for the rest of the week, bringing settled conditions and lots of dry weather. Feeling very warm with light winds. Mild overnight with mist and fog.

Saturday, May 11 to Monday, May 20

The coming weekend will probably remain fine for many, with some spells of sunshine for most and it will continue to feel warm, especially in parts of the south and east where temperatures are likely to remain in the mid-20's. Some areas of cloud are likely, especially around some coasts and perhaps later in northwest Scotland, with an increasing risk of a few showers here too.

Following this spell of pleasant May weather though, it's all change the following week with conditions likely to turn more changeable across the country, with rainfall likely to be above average in most areas. Some of the rain is likely to be heavy and a few thunderstorms are also likely. Temperatures will return back closer to normal for May.
