A yellow weather warning for thunderstorms has been issued on Teesside.

Heavy rain and thunderstorms on Monday will bring a chance of disruption to parts of northern England, the Met Office states. The weather warning is in place from 1pm to 9pm and covers all of Teesside and much of the North-east.

However, the Met Office weather forecast for Middlesbrough shows an overcast day until around 4pm which then changes to overcast for the remainder of the Bank Holiday. There's around a 10% chance of precipitation throughout the day, which only changes to 20% at 8pm, despite the yellow weather warning that's in place.

Temperatures of between 12 to 15 degrees are expected on Monday, with it dropping to 11 degrees at 9pm. Elsewhere there's a 40% chance of light rain in Hartlepool and Darlington at 3pm.

The yellow weather warning affects North-east England including Darlington, Hartlepool, Middlesbrough, Redcar and Cleveland and Stockton. The warning states: "Thunderstorms and heavy downpours are likely to break out in some places this afternoon and evening. Although not all places will catch these storms and downpours, where they do occur 20 to 40 mm rain may fall in some places in an hour or two."
