Original source (on modern site)

A man has been charged after two police officers were injured after allegedly being 'chased with a chainsaw' in Paisley.

Cops raced to the incident on Glasgow Road following a disturbance "involving a weapon" on Monday afternoon. It's believed to have happened after a crash between a car and a stationery police vehicle.

On Monday police confirmed a 30-year-old man had been arrested in connection with the incident. Police have now confirmed the man has been charged and he is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

Police Scotland previously issued a statement saying there was no wider risk to the public.

Glasgow Road was closed between Buchlyvie Road and Allanton Avenue whilst investigations are carried out and drivers were asked to avoid the area.

A Police Scotland spokesperson said: "Around 1pm on Monday, May 6, 2024, a disturbance involving a weapon occurred following a collision involving a car and a stationary police vehicle on Glasgow Road in Paisley. Two officers were injured and were treated by paramedics.

"A 30-year-old man has been arrested and charged in connection with this incident. He is due to appear at Paisley Sheriff Court on Tuesday, May 7. A report will be forwarded to the Procurator Fiscal."
