GP of PORTUGAL 2024 - AGUEDA - Results and points!

Jorge Prado ha superato le cadute, le difficoltà e il clima difficile di Agueda mostrando vera grinta e recuperando punti importanti per il campionato nonostante abbia concluso al 13° posto assoluto.

Simon Längenfelder si è distinto nella prima manche con un secondo posto, ma una caduta nella seconda manche ha costretto ad un ritiro e ad un sospetto infortunio alla clavicola.

Dopo il GP del Portogallo, il Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing team è nella classifica costruttori terzo nella MX2 e secondo nella MXGP.

Il Portogallo non è finita come volevamo… Solida prima gara e seconda, ma sono caduto nel primo giro della seconda gara rompendomi la clavicola! Ci vediamo al più presto.

In un fine settimana dominato da una pioggia torrenziale, il teamRed Bull GASGAS Factory Racing ha affrontato al meglio gli impegni agonistici, conquistando punti importanti. Situata sulla costa nord-occidentale del Portogallo, vicino alla città da cui prende il nome, la pista di  Agueda è generalmente caratterizzata da un fondo di terra 'rossa'. Questo fine settimana, il tracciato di 1.320 metri per le piogge si è trasformato in un profondo e scivoloso terreno di fango e acqua (il primo GP con fango quest'anno), che ha influito non poco sui risultati in gara.

Il pilota MXGP della Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, Jorge Prado, ha affrontato una delle sfide più impegnative della stagione; concludendo la giornata al 13° posto in classifica di GP. Il campione in carica ha iniziato domenica in modo promettente e nella prima manche ha rimontato rapidamente dal settimo posto al quarto posto nei primi giri. Tuttavia, il peggioramento delle condizioni della pista cambiava il terreno e a causa di un canale trasversale, al quarto giro Prado è incappato in una caduta insolita. Prado è entrato nella pit-lane e quando è rientrato in gara era in ventitreesima posizione, e nonostante uno sforzo eroico per recuperare terreno, ha concluso la gara al sedicesimo posto.

La seconda manche è iniziata al meglio quando Prado è scattato in testa al gruppo, centrando l l'holeshot Fox - il suo settimo della stagione. Tuttavia, una caduta dopo poche curve ha infranto le sue speranze di un piazzamento sul podio, ripartendo dalle retrovie. Jorge non si è arreso ed ha lottato valorosamente, recuperando fino  al 12° posto finale di manche. I risultati non hanno certo arriso a Jorge sulla pista di Agueda, ma si sono comunque viste le sue capacità, velocità e tecnica anche in quelle condizioni estreme, e si conferma un protagonista nella lotta per il campionato.

Nella MX2, Simon Längenfelder era il solo pilota per il Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing team, con il compagno di squadra Marc-Antoine Rossi indisponibile a causa di un infortunio riportato nel round precedente in Trentino. Längenfelder ha rapidamente preso confidenza con il particolare terreno di Agueda, e già nel turno cronometrato del sabato ha segnato il terzo miglior tempo. Quarto nella manche di qualifica, in gara uno la domenica è stato tra i primi tre fin dall'inizio ed è poi al terzo giro passato in seconda posizione. A conferma della sua velocità è arrivato il giro record della manche, uno strepitoso 2:05.9, al settimo giro. Simon ha tenuto un gran passo chiudendo agevolmente la manche in seconda posizione.

Purtroppo nella seconda manche nonostante un'ottima partenza, Simon è incappato in una caduta in un punto particolarmente fangoso ed è stato costretto al ritiro. Nella caduta ha colpito a terra con spalla e al rientro dovrà sottoporsi ad un controllo per un sospetto infortunio alla clavicola. 

MXGP - #1 - Jorge Prado: "L'MXGP del Portogallo è stato estremamente impegnativo. Sono stato il più veloce quando la pista era asciutta all'inizio del fine settimana, ma poi è arrivata la pioggia sabato e domenica e ha cambiato tutto. Nella manche di qualifica ho faticato un po' a mettere a punto la moto, ma domenica ero di nuovo il più veloce. Sicuramente avevo una buon passo, ma le prime parti di gara non sono state delle migliori: ci sono stati errori e cadute. Le condizioni meteo di domenica hanno complicato tutto. Ho dovuto fare due pit stop nella prima manche e poi sono caduto dopo una buona partenza nella seconda manche. È stato un peccato perché su questo tracciato ho già vinto con gare eccellenti, ma a volte va tutto storto! Ora non vediamo l'ora che arrivi la prossima gara. Siamo sotto di quindici punti, ma speriamo di recuperare presto quella tabella rossa!"

MX2 - #516 - Simon Längenfelder: "Questo weekend ad Agueda è stato una battaglia contro il clima tanto quanto contro il cronometro, questo fine settimana. Abbiamo messo in mostra un gran ritmo e lottato duramente, dimostrando che anche nelle condizioni più difficili spingiamo al limite. Purtroppo è  stata una battuta d'arresto la caduta in gara due, ma con la testa siamo già alla rimonta. Guariremo, ci riorganizzeremo e scenderemo in pista con ancora più determinazione. Grazie, come sempre, al team per tutto il loro duro lavoro e supporto questo fine settimana!"

In a weekend dominated by torrential weather, Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing confronted the challenging elements head-on, clinching essential points. Situated on the north-west coast of Portugal, near the town from which the circuit derives its name, Agueda is known for its relentless hard pack surface. However, this weekend, the 1320m track was transformed into a deep, slippery quagmire of mud and rain, setting the stage for the season's first major mud race.

Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing's MXGP rider, Jorge Prado, encountered one of the season's most demanding challenges yet; finishing 13th overall. The defending champion began Sunday promisingly in the first moto, swiftly advancing from a 7th place gate slot to hold 4th in the initial laps. However, the deteriorating track conditions were unforgiving, and a cross-rut on the fourth lap caused an uncharacteristic fall. Prado rejoined the race more than a lap behind, in 23rd position, and despite a heroic effort to regain ground, he finished the race in 16th place.

The second moto started with a flash of brilliance as Prado nailed the Fox holeshot - his seventh of the season - immediately asserting himself at the front. However, an early crash dashed his hopes of a podium finish, relegating him to 23rd. Undeterred, Prado fought valiantly back to 12th by the race end. While Jorge's performance at Agueda may not reflect his usual dominance, his ability to race in extreme conditions and salvage crucial points keeps him firmly in the championship fight.

In MX2, Simon Längenfelder was flying the flag solo for Red Bull GASGAS Factory Racing, with teammate Marc-Antoine Rossi sidelined due to an injury sustained at the previous round in Trentino. Längenfelder quickly mastered the treacherous conditions, charging into the top three right from the start and securing a solid second place by the third lap of the first race. His speed was on full display as he set the fastest lap of the race, a blistering 2:05.9, on lap seven. He maintained this incredible pace to finish an impressive second, just 10.7 seconds behind the leader.

However, the second moto brought a stark contrast. Despite a strong start, disaster struck early-on when Längenfelder crashed due to the deceptive deep mud. The unfortunate incident led to a suspected collarbone injury, forcing him to retire prematurely and record a DNF.

In EMX250 Valerio Lata followed up his masterclass performance in Trentino, with another podium - finishing P2 overall, after a third and second place finish in both motos.

As the Red Bull GASGAS squad now looks forward to the next round - the MXGP of Galicia in Lugo on the 12th of May - the focus is clear: adapt, overcome, and return to the top of the podium.

MXGP - #1 - Jorge Prado: "The MXGP of Portugal is over, and it was extremely challenging. I was the fastest when the track was dry early in the weekend, but then the rain came on Saturday and Sunday. In the qualifying race, I struggled a bit with getting the bike set up, but by Sunday, I was the fastest again. I definitely had good speed, but the starts from P7 were tough: there were mistakes, crashes. The conditions on Sunday made it super tough. I had to make two pit stops in the first moto, and then I crashed after a good start in the second moto. It was a pity because I know I've been hard to beat on this track—but sometimes, that's just how it goes! Now, we're just looking forward to the next race. We're 15 points down, but hopefully, we'll get back that red plate soon enough!"

MX2 - #516 - Simon Längenfelder: "Every lap in Agueda was a battle against the elements as much as against the clock this weekend. We showed our pace and fought hard, proving that even under the toughest conditions, we push to the limit. It's a setback, for sure, but every challenge is a setup for a stronger comeback. We'll heal, regroup, and hit the track with even more determination. Thank you, as always, to the team for all their hard work and support this weekend!"
