Thiruvananthapuram: The controversy over a verbal spat between Thiruvananthapuram mayor Arya Rajendran and KSRTC driver H L Yadhu on the road took a new turn on Monday, with police registering a case against her, her husband and Balussery MLA Sachin Dev and three others on non-bailable charges based on a court order. As per the FIR, the accused had blocked the public transport bus, abused the driver and passengers and destroyed the memory card of CCTV installed inside the bus. Cantonment police registered an FIR following a directive from the judicial first class magistrate court-III on a petition filed by Yadhu, seeking action against the mayor, Sachin, mayor's brother Aravind, his wife Arya and a fifth person.
Police have invoked various IPC sections, including 353 (assault or criminal force to deter a public servant from discharge of his duty), 447 (criminal trespass), 341 (wrongful restraint), 294B (uttering obscene words) and 201 (tampering with evidence).
According to police, they will take further action, including arrest, after recording Yadhu's statements.
Cantonment police filed a case against MLA K M Sachin Dev, mayor Arya Rajendran, for blocking a KSRTC bus. The court hearing on Monday involves charges under the Motor Vehicle Act 1988.
