Fresh produce imports to Greece surged by 50.2% in April

In April, Greece witnessed a remarkable surge in the import of fruits and vegetables, marking a 50.2% increase compared to the same month in 2023, reaching a total of 88,851 tonnes, as reported by the Association of Greek Fruit, Vegetable, and Juice Exporting.

Imports of potatoes increased by 102.5% compared to April 2023, when imports stood at 22,018 tonnes. Following potatoes, apples saw a surge of 344%, with 3,626 tonnes imported in April 2024 compared to 816 tonnes in April 2023. Tomatoes also experienced a notable increase of 89.9%, with 334 tonnes imported. The import of oranges was 413 tonnes, compared to 125 tonnes in April of the previous year.

The potatoes were sourced from Egypt, France, Germany, and Cyprus, while apples were imported from North Macedonia, Poland, and Italy. Tomatoes originated mainly from Turkey and Spain, while citrus fruits primarily originated from Egypt and other countries.
