A driver is facing drunk driving charges after a serious crash in the parking lot of Park and Tilford mall in North Vancouver.

North Vancouver RCMP said the crash was reported at the shopping centre in the 300-block of Brooksbank Avenue at about 8 p.m. Saturday.

One of the vehicles ended up going through the windows of a floral and gift shop in the mall.

There were no injuries but alcohol is suspected to be a factor, and a woman driving one of the cars is being investigated for impaired driving offences.

"North Van RCMP would like to remind the public to always plan a safe ride home if you plan on drinking," said RCMP Cpl. Brett Urano in a statement late Saturday.

"This crash had multiple bystanders in the area that could have been injured and this collision could have had tragic consequences. We are fortunate there was only property damage," said Urano.

After photos of the crash were posted on social media, and one of the commenters said it was their red car in the storefront, and that it was parked and unoccupied when it was hit by the alleged drunk driver.

Its heavily damaged front end could be seen facing out of the smashed front windows of the store, while a black SUV is seen banged into a set of protective bollards outside a Winners store two doors down.

Urano said anyone who suspects someone of driving while impaired should call 911 and report it immediately.
