UPDATE: RCMP presence at two locations in Swift Current

A wellness check in Swift Current this morning ended with a tragic result.

Swift Current RCMP were called to conduct the check on an adult female on South Service Road at 11:05 a.m.

They located the female and cited she needed medical care. She was taken into custody under the Mental Health Act.

She was taken to the hospital by EMS and while en route went into medical distress. She was pronounced deceased later at the hospital. 

The Saskatchewan RCMP notified the Saskatchewan Serious Incident Response Team about the incident as per The Police Act. SIRT is investigating the RCMP's interactions with the deceased and the circumstances around her death.

A pair of police presences are set up in Swift Current this evening.

One is located along Saskatchewan Drive and the other is along South Service Road. 

The Saskatchewan RCMP said in a media release the increased police presence is due to an ongoing investigation.

RCMP are asking the public to avoid the areas if possible and they will notify the public if there is a risk to the public.
