Toronto Police have arrested a synagogue member in an arson investigation stemming from a fire late last week in North York.

On Thursday at 9:47 a.m., police were called to a synagogue in the Stadacona Dr. and Wilson Ave. area.

Police say a man entered the building "using his key" and set a fire inside the synagogue and then fled.

The suspect is a member of the synagogue, according to police.

Avrom Bobrowsky, 67, of Toronto, was arrested Friday, police announced late Sunday, and charged with arson — disregard for human life.

Man already in custody charged with retail robberies

A man who was already in police custody has been arrested for several retail robberies in Toronto.

Between May 20, 2023 and Jan. 23, 2024, Toronto Police say they responded to seven robbery calls in the areas of Danforth and Pape Aves., Yonge St. and Finch Ave., and Kingston Rd. and Victoria Park Ave.

Police say in each case the suspect would enter a business wearing a mask, produce a knife and demand cash before fleeing.

Investigators identified a suspect who they say was already in custody on an undisclosed unrelated matter.

Jason Kistindey, 54, of Toronto, was charged Saturday with seven counts of robbery with offensive weapon, seven counts of disguise with intent, and possession property obtained by crime over.

2 women stabbed in Oshawa, man arrested

A man is in custody after two women were stabbed in Oshawa.

On Sunday, Durham police were called to a residence in the area of Adelaide Ave. E. and Townline Road N. for reports of a stabbing.

Police say a female victim was stabbed by her husband during a domestic fight.

During the alleged assault, cops said an adult child of the suspect tried to stop the altercation and was also stabbed.

She sustained significant injuries but she was able to flee to a nearby residence for help.

She was taken to a Toronto-area trauma centre in stable condition.

The adult child was taken to a hospital in stable condition.

A 54-year-old man of no fixed address is charged with two counts of assault with a weapon, aggravated assault, possession of weapon for committing an offence and assault causing bodily harm.

He was held for a bail hearing.

The accused's name is not being released to protect the victims' identities.
