Tent city near Bannerman Park is no more, but supporters see it as a dark day for the province.

Government declared last week that the encampment could not continue, but assured in the same breath that nobody would be forced out.

On Friday, work teams were deployed to the site to erect barriers and clear away the encampment that had been in place since back in November.

Laurel Huget, a supporter of those who chose to stay at the makeshift community, says just because there's no encampment doesn't mean there are no homeless people.

She says a lot of them had faith in Ministers John Abbott and Fred Hutton but that they have failed them and did so all winter long. She adds that the ministers should be ashamed of themselves.
