The European Union will start regulating Telegram with the help of a supervisory body. The Belgian publication De Standaard writes about it.

The Belgian Institute for Postal Services and Telecommunications (BIPT) will become the body that will supervise the messenger throughout the EU.

This structure will monitor how Telegram reacts to the spread of illegal content on the messenger, such as calls for violence, illegal sale of weapons and drugs.

The publication calls the messenger "an online bait for the far right, dealers, and terrorists."

If Telegram does not respond to user complaints, the regulator will be able to fine it.

It is worth noting that the Ukrainian authorities have repeatedly stated that they want to force the messenger to delete certain channels. Apple is also putting pressure on Telegram, threatening to remove the app from the App Store.
