Two brothers have been arrested following a stabbing attack in Melbourne that left one man dead and another badly injured.

Abhijeet Abhijeet, 26, and Robin Gartan, 27, were arrested in Goulburn, NSW. on Tuesday morning with the assistance of NSW Police.

Police had launched a manhunt for the pair on Monday after a violent altercation at a home in Ormond, Victoria, turned deadly on Sunday morning.

A fight broke out at the property on North Rd about 1am, and two men were found with stab wounds.

A Noble Park man, 22, died while a second, aged 30 and from the same suburb, suffered serious injuries.

Police initially said the older man had died, and the younger man was injured, but have since corrected this.

The brothers were last seen in the Ormond area just after the stabbing and were believed to be travelling in a stolen car.

Abhijeet and Gartan are expected to face Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday.

Detectives will travel to NSW on Tuesday and will apply to extradite the brothers back to Victoria.

Police believe those involved in the stabbing incident were known to each other.

Detective Inspector Dean Thomas previously said the two victims of the attack were called to the shared accommodation by a woman concerned about aggression and drinking at the property.
