Police have arrested two brothers in NSW following a fatal stabbing in Melbourne.

Abhijeet Abhijeet, 26, and Robin Gartan, 27, were tracked down in Goulburn, NSW on Tuesday morning — two days after a fatal stabbing in the south-east Melbourne suburb of Ormond.

Victorian homicide squad detectives released details of the men on Monday in an attempt to find them.

Victoria Police says its detectives are on their way to NSW ahead of a court hearing at Goulburn Local Court on Wednesday, where investigators will apply to transfer the men back to Victoria.

The arrests are in relation to a fatal stabbing on Sunday May 5, where one man, aged 22 from Noble Park, was killed, and another, aged 30, also from Noble Park, was injured.

Emergency services were called to a house on North Road about 1am Sunday following reports of a dispute.

When they arrived, they found two men with stab wounds.

Police believe the men involved were known to each other.
