Amid flux, the Nifty index ended the extended 6-day trading week with a 2 per cent increase. This is because investor confidence grew due to moderating inflation in India and lower-than-expected inflation figures from the US Federal Reserve.

Global Market Cues

Global market cues were largely positive, with major US indices like Nasdaq, S&P 500, and Dow reaching lifetime highs.

Stock Market Holiday

The upcoming week will be shorter, with Monday being a market holiday due to voting in Mumbai for the Lok Sabha elections.

This week's rally has pushed both the Nifty and Sensex towards record-high levels. Here is expert insight about how it is expected to perform next week.

"Recent market movements, characterized by the retesting of critical support levels, underscore prevailing volatility and uncertainty. Several key factors contribute to this scenario: substantial returns in mid and small-cap indices over the past year, potential economic slowdown in the US by late 2024 or early 2025, persistent inflation delaying US policy rate cuts, uncertainties surrounding the upcoming US presidential election, and ongoing geopolitical tensions. Domestically, the uncertainty surrounding India's general elections further exacerbates market volatility," Tanvi Kanchan, Head - UAE Business & Strategy, Anand Rathi Shares and Stock Brokers said.

He further said, "Historical data over the past 25 years indicates that intra-year corrections are commonplace, with markets typically rebounding within two to three months and achieving new highs. Consequently, investors should prioritize long-term strategies over short-term market fluctuations. Market corrections often present attractive entry points for long-term investors, reinforcing the importance of maintaining strategic portfolio allocations".
