WASHINGTON COUNTY, Ohio (WCHS) — An Ohio grand jury indicted an HIV-positive woman Tuesday who had sexual contact with more than 200 people in multiple states, officials said.

The woman was charged with engaging in solicitation after a positive HIV test, according to a news release from the Washington County Sheriff's Office.

The news release said the woman received a positive test in 2022 and investigators are reaching out to those who may have had sexual contact with the woman.

"This is not a scam but a public health announcement," the release said. "These individuals are not in trouble. Officers will be directing the individuals to their local health departments for screening and/or treatment for HIV."

According to the CDC, HIV symptoms may be similar to the flu within two to four weeks of infection and may last for weeks. Other cases may have no symptoms and testing is required to detect the virus.

Deputies are working with health officials to monitor spikes of communicable diseases in the area.
