But he never had a round this special.After two straight 69s to open the tournament, Lowry got hot early on Saturday. He reeled off four straight birdies on his way to a 29 after nine holes. It was the first time a 29 had been shot on the front nine at Valhalla in four majors.Lowry, who was tied for 43rd at the Masters last month, had three birdies on the back nine.Lowry started the round 29th on the leaderboard and ended the day tied for second. He has a shot tomorrow for his second major championship."I go out and fight hard," he said. "I've been in this position a few times before, learned from the sort of Oakmont and tournaments like that and brought that into Portrush, and hopefully I can bring some of that with me tomorrow and just give it everything."
