CHARLOTTESVILLE, Va. (CBS19 SPORTS)-- Virginia took game one of the Commonwealth Clash from the Hokies 7-3 thanks to a career day from Evan Blanco. The sophomore lefty pitcher threw a career high 7.1 innings, striking out two and allowing just two runs. The outing was the longest by a Cavalier this season.

Eric Becker knocked his seventh home run of the season in bottom of the second to make it a 2-0 ball game. Jacob Ferrence followed suit in the next frame with another two run homer to double the lead while Henry Godbout's RBI single tacked on another run. Virginia ran into trouble in the top of the 4th when a fielding error followed by an single up the middle from Christian Martin made it a 5-2 game.

Virginia continued to punish the Hokies on offense though as Harrison Didawick hit a long ball into the UVA bull pen for his 20th home run of the season. Didawick is now just the third cavalier ever to hit 20 or more home runs in a single season. Casey Saucke added an insurance run in the bottom of the sixth with a single to score Luke Hanson.

Game two between the 'Hoos and the Hokies is slated for noon on Friday.
