The WNBA is in a great place at the moment. With the influx of young, household names like Caitlin Clark and Angel Reese to pair with veteran stars like A'ja Wilson and Breanna Stewart, the league has a ton of new eyes on it this season.

Before all of them came players like Rebecca Lobo. Lobo joined the WNBA when it was formed for its inaugural season in 1997. Lobo has watched the league improve and reach its pinnacle in 2024. That also means she has experienced firsthand the difficulties professional women athletes have had to deal with.

And she continues to deal with it even today. She told a concerning story on Friday about being subjected to sexist remarks during her son's basketball game.

Lobo coaches her 15-year-old son's AAU team and has for a while. During a recent game, a male referee made an unsavory and disrespectful comment.

"This is a grown man's game. This is not a women's game."

It's a sexist trope that we've heard and seen far too often, though it's surprising to see it happen to a notable basketball player and TV analyst like Lobo. We've still got a far way to go as a society.
