It's certainly a mixed forecast for Cork today as while temperatures are set to climb comfortably above the 20ºC mark the Rebel County remains under a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning.

Temperatures in Cork today will start off in the high teens this morning before steadily climbing to a peak of 23ºC by the mid-afternoon. These balmy conditions will extend into tomorrow with temperatures reaching 22ºC on Monday.

Clear skies are expected throughout much of the morning and early afternoon with cloud cover rolling in as we approach the evening. While it's expected to remain dry for most of the day, there is a chance of rainfall later this afternoon with the national forecaster predicting possible thunderstorms in the early evening.

Met Éireann has warned of torrential downpours in parts of Cork which may be accompanied by hail and lightning storms. This comes as Cork and four other counties have been placed under a Status Yellow thunderstorm warning, which will take effect later today.

The warning period begins at 2 pm and will remain valid until 8 pm this evening with the national forecaster warning of possible lighting strikes, spot flooding and travel-related issues.

North Cork will bear the brunt of today's warning while areas like Kinsale and much of West Cork can expect a mostly dry day - albeit with lower peak temperatures.
