Sabrina Carpenter Proves She's That Me Espresso on 'SNL'

Original source (on modern site)

Sabrina Carpenter is working late… Cause she's a singerrrr — on Saturday Night Live, that is. The singer made her musical debut on the late-night comedy sketch show on May 18 for SNL's season 49 finale with host Jake Gyllenhaal.

The tiny-but-mighty pop star first took the stage at Studio 8H with an enchanting performance of her hit single, "Espresso." The stage was set to look like a dark bar with two suitors/ dancers playing into Carpetner's sultry performance. She appears to be sipping on an espresso martini when the scene first begins (fitting for the song) before Carpenter turns around on her barstool and reveals her red sheer babydoll dress.

The earworm song has taken over social media, inspiring multiple memes, and has solidified Carpenter as a certified hitmaker. "Espresso" has become her biggest single, securing the top spot on Billboard's Global Excl. U.S. chart along with remaining number 1 on the UK Singles Chart. So it only makes sense that she would kick off her SNL debut with the hit after Gyllenhaal introduced her.

When Carpenter came back for her second and final performance, she then opted for a medley of her two other top songs, "Nonsense" and "Feather." She kept the sheer theme for her second outfit, wearing a baby pink dress before she took it off to reveal a pink corset dress with a short feathery train on the back.

Of course, it wouldn't be a performance of "Nonsense" without a cheeky outro, which she famously changes depending on what city/ venue/ festival she's performing the song at. For SNL, Carpenter made sure to stick to the "obnoxiously horny" theme, changing the lyrics to:

"He is 30 Rock hard 'cause I said hi/ My sense of humor is, but I am not dry/ SNL I just came for the first time."
