Apple Plans To Launch Its Highest-End iPhone 17 Model With A 'Slim' Design, Will Sit Above The 'Pro Max' And Cost Even Higher

Apple's iPhone design has become a little stagnant over the past few years. The company only enlarged the cameras, played with the build material, and called it a redesign. It seems that engineers and designers at Apple are hard at work to bring about a major change. With that said, a new report has emerged that shines a light on the potential launch of the iPhone 17 'Slim' next year with an entirely new design and form factor.

iPhone 'Slim' comes with a smaller display than the 'Pro Max' but it will cost more

The Information states that Apple is expected to be working on a new variant of the iPhone 17, which will be significantly thinner than the current models. The last time Apple introduced a completely new iPhone design was back in 2017 with the iPhone X. The company brought the all-screen design with Face ID replacing Touch ID on the iPhone 7 and a plethora of novelties to the mix. The iPhone 17 'Slim' is not only expected to be the most premium but also the most expensive smartphone the company has ever made.

If the company plans for a "major redesign," as mentioned by the source, it could add a couple of hundred dollars above the price of the iPhone 15 Pro Max. The device will also undergo a shift in the camera layout, resembling the rumored design of the Google Pixel 9. However, these are initial reports at this stage, and we can see the company opting for a different route altogether.

The report mentions that the cameras on the device will move away from the left side of the device to the center and be arranged in a horizontal fashion. On the front, the iPhone 17 Slim will come with a narrower Dynamic Island for more screen real estate and minimized intrusive elements. Take note that the display size is not expected to increase at all as it will sit between 6.1 and 6.7 inches, possibly replacing the iPhone 16 Plus in the lineup.

Internally, the device will be powered by the A19 Pro chip with an improved front-facing camera. The Information also mentions that the iPhone 17 Slim will possibly replace the iPhone 17 Plus, which means that the company will continue to offer four variants of the iPhone 17. Prominent industry analyst Jeff Pu has already predicted the iPhone 17 Slim, and this is the first time that we are hearing details on the device's design and feature set. Nonetheless, be sure to take the news with a grain of salt, as Apple could be testing a prototype of the device.
